There are reports that delays to cross the Canada-U.S. border are longer than ever, jeopardizing trade and tourism.
It’s unclear if the waits are due to wise security measures, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff’s “gut feeling” that a terrorist attack is on the way, or just bureaucracy. (Traffic is likely to back up on I-5 for the next two years thanks to construction at the Peace Arch.)
It would be nice to streamline the border-control procedures, not just postpone imposition of prohibitive rules — especially before Olympics crowds arrive.

It took us about 45 minutes northbound and 10-15 back into the US. Doesn’t seem too bad for a holiday weekend when we did nothing to avoid peak hours.

I went across into Canada on Sunday and while it took only 10 minutes to go north at the truck crossing. At the same time, the wait to get intot the US has to be 2+hours. I haven’t seen a backup like that since 2001.

I went through Port Angeles, WA into Victoria, B.C. via Ferry and spent about 5 minutes at the border check. Coming home, however, I spent nearly an hour at the U.S. border. Worst still, the American border checker I met was extremely rude. I want to write the U.S. Border Patrol and tell them that they absolutely need to be better representatives of my country. To an ignorant eye, base upon how I and I’m assuming others are treated at the border, you might think that the United States citizenry are a bunch of a********.
But, I think crossing the border is popular because the cultural concept of Cascadia is gaining steam. People want to get to know each other.
